Erection of Roof Type Panels (СПК)

Roof Sandwich Panels are used in a variety of roof designs in the construction of all types of buildings and structures. 

The roof slope must not be less than 7 degrees (i.e., the slope of the roof 1: 10).  When the roof slope is greater than 15 degrees it is necessary to provide installation of additional stops in the area of overhang, at the junction of two panels ends to prevent sliding of panels downward (See Fig. 5). 

Use of roof panels is allowed at roof slopes from 5 to 7 degrees in the absence of transverse panel joints, mandatory sealing of inner interlock with silicone or other non-hardening sealant, with decreasing distance between girders to increase the bearing capacity of the roof.  It is not recommended to use roof panels longer than 10 meters to avoid the risk of damaging during their ascent to the installation site, as well as the possibility of cladding deformation due to significant temperature difference of internal and external environment.  Do not take spacing over 2 meters for girders for the roof panels. 
Erection of roof panels is usually carried out after the erection of wall panels. 
The first roof panel is erected on the girders along the slope and installation dimensions are verified according to the layout of the working drawings.  The extreme excess corrugation along the length of the panel is cut.  Dock the panel with self-tapping screws into corrugation according to the
СПК panels mounting method.  The mounting starts from top down the roof slope into each girder. 
If the length of the roof slope exceeds the size of the panel, the installation of the first row of panels horizontally is started at the wall, according to the mounting scheme, ensuring overhang, and then set the second row horizontally, and then following the horizontal rows to the ridge of the roof. To ensure the overhang of the first row panels and provide overlapping of exterior cladding panels over the next rows, the roof panels are to be prepared before the mounting as follows:

  • Make a trimming of the cladding bottom up to 250 mm (according to project) from the end of a panel;
  • Remove the cut off cladding; remove the layer of insulation;
  • Depending on the erection orientation, the cutting of panels could be left and right (see Fig. 6). 

Two parallel self-adhesive sealing tapes are stacked along the length on the panel bottom row in place of overlapping.  Before mounting of the panels of the upper row lay the mineral wool insulation gasket of 20 mm thick along the length at the end panel of the bottom row. (See Fig. 7). 

Then the top row panel is mounted, the compression of top panel to the bottom one occurs.  If necessary, a layer of sealant is applied to lock of the bottom facing of the mounted panel.  Attaching the panels in the area of longitudinal seam is made only after the final attachment of the entire panel to the joists.  Rivets or self-tapping screws installed in the lock crest corrugations along the length of the panel in spacing not exceeding 400 mm. (See Fig. 7). 

After erection of the roof, various openings are cut and filling with foam or mineral wool insulation the ridge node and the wall and other joints. 
Next, the installation of flat strips and sealing joints is done in accordance with project documentation.  


The minimum width of the roof panel support is at least 60 mm.  Pay special attention to the selection of beam spacing, maximum beam step is no more than 2 meters.  The panels to the supporting steel structures, fixing gutters, sealing the joints between panels themselves, sealing the joints between the panels should be followed strictly according to the documentation.
